Today I will talk about The Sister Pact by Stacie Ramey. Thank you to the author for sending me her book!
In The Sister Pact we meet Allie who is trying to survive after her sister's suicide. Allie feels betrayed as they had a pact " they'd always be together, in life, and in death". Now that Leah (Allie's sister) broke the pact, Allie can't continue with her life without knowing her sister's reason. To add, Allie has a crazy teenager life with separated parents, false friends and a boy who is crazy about her.
"Allie's not sure which is more distressing: discovering the truth behind her sister's death or facing her new reality without her. "
I must say that this book has a strong theme. As you could read, it talks about suicide and the search for the reason why the character did it. Working with this theme is quite complicated since it is a fragile topic that affects people. For this reason, I congratulate the author for deciding to work on this topic and to be successful on it.
I confess that I found some moments a little boring since it was the main character rambling about the moments with her sister and how much she missed her. I know this is important for the characterization of the characters and their relationship but I think it could have been more captivating. About the relationships: I found them very superficial and unreal... I was reading the book and thinking that they weren't real and didn't seem real.
I loved the fact that Allie was an artist and she tried to combat her depression and pain through art. I also liked the reference to drugs and sex: it is something that appears in teenage life and talking about it makes the book and it's development more realistic.
To sum up, I liked this books as it has important themes and ideas, however, I think that it has some flaws.
I rate this book with 3.4 out of 5!
